On July 16, 2021, Hodges was a contributing sponsor for the Korean Heritage Night that was hosted at the downtown Montgomery Biscuits stadium. For one night, the Minor League Baseball team, well known as the Montgomery Biscuits, traded their jerseys and became the Montgomery Kimchis. The Biscuits team wore special on-field jerseys that were auctioned off to the highest bidder with all proceeds benefiting A-KEEP, Alabama-Korea Education and Economic Partnership.
A-KEEP is an organization based out of Montgomery, Alabama that “enables students, professionals, organizations, and corporations of Alabama and Korea to take full advantage of the opportunities of growing economic ties between the two regions.”
What is kimchi? Kimchi is a traditional Korean side dish of salted and fermented vegetables, commonly made with cabbage and radish. Biscuit managers said, “We believe food is a gateway into culture. Just as biscuits are a mainstay on a southern table, kimchi is a staple in Korean cuisine.”
That night, the Montgomery Kimchis beat the Biloxi Shuckers 9-8 in 11 innings.
